You know your a yuppie when/rant-no but seriously this IS a rant
Current mood: chipper

.
It was not until Friday I became fully aware of my of my inner yuppie. As i lie awake gazing at me roomates' empty beds Lily's all comfortable with an old cuddly teddy bear she has had since she was two and carla whose blankey was reduced to a one big smelly scrap of cloth, which i guess could be considered a "binky" i realized the only thing i had to cuddle with was you guessed a stuffed olive pillow. to top it off, i then realized i had not one, but TWO Banana Repubilc CD's whic i bouth AT the store. no wonder im so socially awk. But seriously, my music sense as much i love classy overpriced elevator music you buy at Louis Boston, i justknow one day, late 20's early thirities im going to be the proud owner of a couple john tesh cd's and yanni boxed set, mixed in with a variety of cheasy trip hop they play on the l word. i mean come on im from CT i grew up on jazz 101.9, And im not gonna lie it so bad its actually good. its like eating- one of those college cafeteria quirky, overly sweetend rice crispie treat. They have everything from froot loops, to white chocolate pieces, to probably even truffle oil. i mean there so damn sweet to the point where they border on their own self parody. But your eating them and the whole tiem your like why the HELL am i eating this its so damn werid... but soo good. And its really the same way i feel about lounge music, the lyrics are bad, supreficial the music is often repetitve with ever so slight change of beat, but it always sets a mood, not like THE mood but something close to it. AND w/ elevator lounge music you feel so cool, that its perfectly normal to cat walk (when no one's looking).not only does it justify catwalking and looking eurotrashy but your sense of style is so whack that you end up making bjork look like a poster child for Talbots (and some how tje fact that your becoming a war crime to fashion does not bother you at all, because of the music you listen to) And I mean i figure its okay, because all my frineds have like GOOD music taste, they have all the quintessential albums to have an exceptional collection from Siouxsie and Bandshees- The Roots to White Snake some of the Decembeiriests and Kate Bush and Madonna. So I;m kind of void from or excused from having an obsession w/elevator music. cause i have cool friends and i make strong drinks and t have a nice ass

The Whitney

The Whitney Biennale
Current mood: aggravated

So, I was reading a review of this year's Whitney Biennale, which is a bi-annual exhibit of some of hte most forthcoming progressive contemporary artists. There's not really a theme but a nice pu pu platter of poltical art, contemporar art diva's, and just a dash of self-obsessesed, comical art installations, where you really don't know if its part of the exhibit or just the piping and construction of the museum. ANY WAY so the review talked about how biennel's "die every 30 seconds, and have no thematic premise and for the most part the exhibit is a bit uninspiring w/ the same themes, same artitsts just a different year. And I don't know what to think, I mean, how far can it actually go when you look at the history of whats already been donein contemporary art. it seems over the years, we tend to rely more and more on these vague, elitist conceptual performance artists to show or evoke some controversial thought, or something highly Duchampian and comical. Im so sick of contemporary art, espeically since it appears that we shy away from actual technical skilll. WHY do we have to focus on the same anti-war rhetoric? wouldn't it be ever more ground breaking to have pro-war art? why do we focus on the whole subject of identity and identity of the artist. deconstruction yadda fuckn yadda yadda, WHY do we focus on globablization, and living in a post modernerm world, i mean thats as old and predictable as like OJ Simpson jokes, paris hilton, or topsy tails, or the whole soy food craze. IM so over art.
