The Whitney
The Whitney Biennale
Current mood: aggravated
So, I was reading a review of this year's Whitney Biennale, which is a bi-annual exhibit of some of hte most forthcoming progressive contemporary artists. There's not really a theme but a nice pu pu platter of poltical art, contemporar art diva's, and just a dash of self-obsessesed, comical art installations, where you really don't know if its part of the exhibit or just the piping and construction of the museum. ANY WAY so the review talked about how biennel's "die every 30 seconds, and have no thematic premise and for the most part the exhibit is a bit uninspiring w/ the same themes, same artitsts just a different year. And I don't know what to think, I mean, how far can it actually go when you look at the history of whats already been donein contemporary art. it seems over the years, we tend to rely more and more on these vague, elitist conceptual performance artists to show or evoke some controversial thought, or something highly Duchampian and comical. Im so sick of contemporary art, espeically since it appears that we shy away from actual technical skilll. WHY do we have to focus on the same anti-war rhetoric? wouldn't it be ever more ground breaking to have pro-war art? why do we focus on the whole subject of identity and identity of the artist. deconstruction yadda fuckn yadda yadda, WHY do we focus on globablization, and living in a post modernerm world, i mean thats as old and predictable as like OJ Simpson jokes, paris hilton, or topsy tails, or the whole soy food craze. IM so over art.
